In Spades marched to the top and kept on rolling to an impressive-looking score in Monday’s main event – the $11,500 Preferred 2 Handicap for horse and gelding pacers – at Grand River Raceway.
In rein to J Harris, In Spades swept to the lead from Post 4 and sailed through splits of :27.2, :56.3 and 1:26.2 before sprinting home in :28.2 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Boomboom Ballykeel in 1:54.4. Mohawk Warrior took home the show dough in the five-horse affair.
Harris trains the four-year-old son of Bettors Delight-Cinny Fever for Walter Simmons of Summerside, PE. The gelding now boasts an impressive record of 5-6-1 from 19 trips to the track this season. The 10-time winner recently surpassed $100,000 in lifetime earnings.
