Inverness Raceway launched its 2017 harness racing season on Sunday afternoon (June 4) with Ontario invader Intended Royalty headlining the Opening Day card with a victory in the featured top class.

Driven by Walter Walker in his East Coast debut, six-year-old No Pan Intended gelding Intended Royalty converted off a pocket trip in the top $1,100 Winners Over Pace and downed race leader Havana Dream by four and three-quarter lengths in 1:59 flat. Giant Slayer finished back in third.

A career winner of 13 races and $87,330 in purses, Intended Royalty had been racing most recently at The Raceway at Western Fair District in London, Ont. before being acquired by local trainer Randy Copley and co-owner Edward Copley.

Live harness racing resumes next Sunday, June 11 at Inverness Raceway.
