Warrawee Phoenix tracked down the leaders in deep stretch to win the Saturday night feature in 1:56 flat at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Mark Bradley drove the newcomer to victory in the $2,650 Preferred for owner/trainer Anthony Stymest of Beaver Bank, N.S. Clic K (Gilles Barrieau) came back on to finish second with Forever Paradise (Mike McGuigan) fading to third. Warrawee Phoenix was sent off as the longshot at 12-1 odds and returned $27.60 on the win.
Mike McGuigan enjoyed a big night with a driving/training triple. The Charlottetown native made trips to the winner’s circle aboard Sugar Crisp, Ameriquel and Fightmaster.
The father and son team of Clifford and Ken Murphy also matched a training and driving triple with First Art Down, Alberta Sky and My Lucky Killean.
Miss Oromocto, in line to Mark Haig, captured the $2,350 Open Mares with a new race win record of 1:56.3. The four-year-old daughter of Driven To Win, who notched her second straight victory, is trained by Melvin Land for owners Stephen Land of Hopewell Cape, N.B., and Sharon Burchill of Oromocto, N.B.
Jason Hughes recorded training/driving double on the 12 dash card.
