Trainer To Send Out Eight Freshmen

Trainer Ray Schnittker will be sending out eight youngsters when Monticello Raceway hosts the $150,000 New York Sire Stakes for freshman trotting colts and geldings on Saturday night (July 2). With seven divisions slated to go to post, in order to get all of Schnittker‘s colts raced he will have an entry in the second division (Race 2).

The NYSS trots are slated in each of the first seven races on the 10-race program.

Although nearly all of the entrants will be making their first pari-mutuel starts, many have showed speed, albeit over the bigger circumference racetracks. However, there are a few colts that have been winners on a half mile track. They include Schnittker’s My Man Dudley (Race 5), Margaret Spagnola’s Coraggioso (Race 5) and a pair from the Sam Schillaci barn, Abundanceofcredit (Race 2) and Macksmith (Race 3).

My Man Dudley who won a matinee event in 2:03:1 at Historic Track on June 19, will tangle with Coraggioso, a two-time 2:05 qualifying race winner (June 17 and 24 at Saratoga Harness).

Schallaci’s Abundanceofcredit won his qualifier in 2:04:1 on June 23 at Northfield Park, while Macksmith toured the Northville Downs oval that same morning in 2:03:1.

However, there have been some youngsters who have shown real class winning their qualifying events on big tracks. Some that fit that bill include Delano (2:00:1, Meadowlands; Race 1), Slugfest (2:03, Meadowlands; Race 2), Imagistic (2:03:2, Vernon Downs; Race 3), Sunpine (2:02:3, Vernon Downs; Race 4) and A Penny Earned (2:01:3, Vernon Downs; Race 6).

Post time for the first race will be at 7:30 p.m.

Attending race fans will be also treated to a free fabulous fireworks display 15 minutes after the final race is conducted.
