On Saturday afternoon (June 3) at Northside Downs, Southwind Ricardo won the feature $1,600 Winners Over Pace.
Gregory Sparling and Southwind Ricardo had the early lead through the opening panel in :31.3, but waited until after that fraction to settle in on the rail ahead of the field of six. Once comfortably seated, Southwind Ricardo kept on moving to set fractions in 1:03.4 and 1:36.2 before winning by 2-1/4 lengths in 2:07.4. Stablemate Runaway Mystery (Harold LeBlanc) finished second and A Better Man (John Gerard Kennedy) was third.
Southwind Ricardo is a 10-year-old gelded son of Dragon Again, co-owned by Joel LeBlanc, Harold LeBlanc, William Seymour and Bernie Gillis. Harold LeBlanc trains the winner of 54 races and $126,111 in career earnings. Southwind Ricardo paid $6.80 to win.
