The forecast for the Saturday feature at Exhibition Park Raceway looked to be in favour of Fall Bliss but one of his rivals was able to spring the upset.
A field of four lined up in the $1,600 feature pace with local standout Fall Bliss (Dr. Mitch Downey) dropping into fourth while Real Bigg (Mark Haig) carved out uncontested fractions of :28.3, :59.2 and 1:29.2. As Downey moved Fall Bliss into contention down the backside, Todd Trites right-lined Weather Hanover from the pocket and pressured the pacesetter around the final turn. Turning for home, Weather Hanover turned his probability of winning percentage closer to 100 with every stride and hit the wire a head in front of Real Bigg. Hp Bushido Dragjet (Doug Folkins Jr.) stayed for third.
A six-year-old gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere - Whatsupcuz, Weather Hanover is trained by Dr. Trevin Shive for owner Chuck Symes of Springhill, N.S. The win was the pacer's third in eight starts this season and 19th lifetime, bringing his lifetime bankroll to $92,937.
