The Filly Princess ($11.40) and driver John MacDonald won the featured $7,500 Winners Over for filly and mare pacers at Vernon Downs on Friday night (June 2).
Race favourite Keene Olivia (Chris Lems) led the field through panels of :27.3 :57.3 and 1:25 before The Filly Princess wore her down in the stretch and went on to post a two and a quarter length victory in 1:53.3. Tiger Boudoir (Truman Gale) out-finished Keene Olivia for the runner-up role.
The nine-year-old Bettors Delight mare is trained by Andy Gardner for Standardbred Ventures Inc.
Coming in to this weekend, Chris Lems and John MacDonald lead all drivers with 19 wins apiece. They are expected to battle for the driver championship all year long.
On the trainers side, Gardner, Angus MacDonald and Jimmy Wittemore each have six wins to lead all trainers early.
