There were two sensational mares making their second start of their four-year-old campaign on Wednesday (June 3) at Harrah's Philadelphia. Brad Grant's Sandbetweenurtoes and Joe Davino and Pat O'Brien's Act Now were in action in the feature, an upper-conditioned level pace for fillies & mares.
Sandbetweenurtoes was eight for 11 in her sophomore campaign, earning more than $250,000, while Act Now bankrolled more than $300,000 in her three-year-old season.
As the wings closed, 2014 Mistletoe Shalee champion Sandbetweenurtoes (Brett Miller) left aggressively for the lead, but so did others, including Cinamony (Yannick Gingras) from post eight. They battled through an opening quarter of :27.1. Sandbetweenurtoes was able to secure the lead shortly after, getting the half in :55.1. Fifteen-time winner Coffee Addict (Corey Callahan) emerged first-over, but failed to gain, hampering the efforts of Act Now (Dave Miller), who was caught behind stalling cover. After three-quarters in 1:23, Act Now began to make progress, but not before Sandbetweenurtoes was able to sprint away, winning by two lengths, stopping the clock in 1:51. Cinamony narrowly held second, while Act Now finished third.
It was the daughter of Somebeachsomewhere's first win of the season, and her ninth overall. She is trained by Larry Remmen and paid $6.20 to win.
In other news, Yannick Gingras had five driving wins on the day. He won four of the first five on the card. Corey Callahan checked in with two, while Scott Zeron drove 81-1 Attention Seeker to a huge upset victory in Race 13, keying a $3,327.60 late Daily Double payoff.
Live racing returns Thursday at 12:40 p.m.
