Fan Of Racing Gives Back

Sydney Weaver, one of harness racing's biggest fans, has announced her annual 'Night at the Races' fundraising event to support 'Friends of We Care' and help send children with physical disabilities to summer camp.

Mohawk Racetrack will host the 'Friends of We Care' Night at the Races on Monday, June 4, 2012. Drivers can donate a share of their purse earnings from this night or a lump sum donation through the Race Office Bookkeeper. Donations can also be deposited on the night of the event at a donation box. Tax receipts will be given for all donations, which will go directly towards a child's cost of camp.

"Five years ago, I wanted to set up a lemonade stand to raise money to send kids with physical disabilities to attend camp," Weaver told Trot Insider. "My dad thought we could do more and our annual 'Night at the Races' was started. This year we will be raising money for 'Friends of We Care,' which sends kids with disabilities to Easter Seals camps."

Weaver, who has helped organize 'Night at the Races' fundraising events in the past, has arranged this year for each winning driver to receive a special prize package at a specific golf course or free motel accommodations (for those stormy nights at Woodbine). All drivers racing will also be entered in a draw for another amazing prize.

"Over the last five years I have met so many wonderful people, and so many people have supported our 'Night at the Races,' so this year I wanted to give back to the drivers to say thank you for all your support," said Weaver.

The groups that have helped put these prizes together include: Blue Springs Golf Club, Turtle Creek Golf Club, Guelph Lakes Golf Club, Halton Country Inn Golf Course, Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club, Lowville Golf Club, Granite Ridge Golf Club, Acton Golf Club North, Mohawk Inn, and Sandman Signature Hotel-Toronto. Additionally, Tackmaster Equipment will once again be donating a blanket for a winner's circle presentation.
