Driver Paul MacLean took advantage of a pocket trip in the featured $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Trot on Wednesday at Sudbury Downs with the France MacLean trained Roan Star.

Roan Star tracked Sampson Eden (Alexander Mac Neill) through panels of :29, :59.3 and 1:29.2 before springing into action. The nine-year-old gelded son of King Conch pushed ahead of the pacesetter in the stretch for the win in 2:00.3 by a neck. Lisas Encore (Patrick Rouleau) came on for third followed by the favoured Speedy Desperado (Richard Turcotte), who both finished just a quarter-length behind.

Roan Star, the 3-1 second choice, earned his fourth win of the season pushing his earnings to over $30,500 for Glenview Livestock Ltd. of Wallenstein, Ont. His 14th lifetime score brought his bankroll to $146,791. Since joining MacLean’s barn at the beginning of May, the roan gelding has yet to finish out of the money.

In other action, Mario Rivest dominated the 11-race program with a training triple. The resident of Hanmer, Ont. enjoyed a boost to his win totals when Town Artist (1:58.1, Race 6), Cameltoe (1:57.1, Race 8) and Vegas Man Dan (2:00.3 ,Race 11) prevailed in their respective assignments.

Rivest has visited the winner's circle five times this year and 336 times in his career earning $1.6 million in purses.

On the driving side, Rivest notched his sixth win of the year and 456th of his career with the hat trick. He has banked over $2.2 million while in the sulky.
