The betting public gave Accelerator plenty of pari-mutuel praise going into Saturday’s main event at the half-mile oval, and the six-year-old son of Driven To Win-KG Affair didn’t disappoint his backers.
Redmond Doucet got away second with the 2-1 favourite while Brother John marched to the lead and carved out first-half fractions of :29.1 and :58.4. Wildcat Jet went first-over on the way to the half, and he showed a short lead while racing parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:28.3.
While those two battled, Accelerator was lurking behind them and just waiting to explode. He found clearance in the late stages of the mile, and when he did he used a :29.3 closing quarter to win by six lengths over Brother John in 1:58.3. Wildcat Jet was third.
Robert Blanchard of Howie Center, NS owns and trains the pacer who won for the third time this season and for the 16th time in his career.
