British pacing mare Laneside Lexus went wire-to-wire to win this week's edition of the $42,000 Fillies & Mare Open Pace at Mohawk Racetrack on Friday night.
Sent postward at odds of 10-1, driver Billy Davis Jr. fired the eight-year-old Hopping High miss to command from post six and carved out fractions of :26.1, :55.2, and 1:23.1 while rebuffing a late first over attack from Goodbadanddeugly N (Scott Zeron) into the stretch. She then held off the pocket-pulling 57-1 shot Modern Cinderella (Randy Waples) for the three-quarter length tally in 1:51.2. Swinging Beauty (Chris Christoforou) closed like freight-train from the backfield for third at odds of 27-1, triggering a $3,314.10 triactor. Favourite Maureen Rocks (Doug McNair) finished fourth.
Laneside Lexus paid $22.50 to win as the fifth choice on the board. She has won six of her 13 starts in Canada this year while banking more than $130,000 for trainer Corey Johnson and owner Neville Bainbridge of Barnard Castle, England.
