It was a case of being a little but lucky in addition to being good for Mrs Browns Boy, who parlayed a two-hole trip into a last stride score in Friday’s $10,058 Nova Scotia Series Stake for three-year-old pacing colts at Truro Raceway.

Mrs Browns Boy tracked tempo-setter Saulsbrook Lassie through fractions of :28.2, :59 and 1:28.1 in the contest before using a :27.3 to collar that foe at the finish line in 1:56.1. Race favourite Saulsbrook Lassie, who made a late break and finished the mile with broken equipment, came up one-quarter of a length short. Third prize went to Notorious.

Trainer/driver Clare MacDonald watched her three-year-old son of Malicious-J J Solara improve this year’s record to 1-2-2 from six starts while bumping his overall bankroll to $18,265. The homebred is owned by Nova Scotia partners Morah Kerr of Greenfield and Phonsie Maceachern of Port Hood.

Wakizashi Hanover also visited the winner’s circle on the Friday program in what was his first start since last December.

Now under the tutelage of trainer Brent Macgrath, the seven-year-old son of Dragon Again-Western Gesture sat a pocket trip behind Revenant who whacked out fractions of :27.3 and :57.3. Darren Crowe angled Wakizashi Hanover off the rail in the backstretch, and the odds-on favourite pressed Revenant to the three-quarter pole in 1:25.3 before using a :29-second final frame to post the win by 1-1/4 lengths over Revenant in 1:54.4. Larjon Lachlan was third in the $1,675 event.

Bruce Kennedy, Percy Bonnell, Wayne Burley and Jennifer Weeks share ownership on the 23-time winner. The classy campaigner, who captured the $1 million Pepsi North America Cup in 1:48 as a three-year-old, has banked over $1.5 million to date.
