It has become commonplace in recent years to see eager young drivers battle it out at Rideau Carleton Raceway each year in the Coville Cup during the track's annual 'Night of Champions' card. What has not been commonplace, however, is to see a young Scottish reinsman in the pack.
According to the Ceredigion Trotting Club, young drivers under the age of 26 had been invited to submit an application to be considered for an invitation extended by the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association to participate in the Coville Cup, which will take place on Sunday, August 5.
After an application process was completed, the Ceredigion Trotting Club decided to extend the invitation to young Scottish driver Gregor Patterson.
Patterson was informed of the decision earlier this week, and, according to the Ceredigion Trotting Club, had no hesitation in instantly accepting this invitation.
“I’m really pleased I got picked," Patterson said. "It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to drive [at RCR] --- it’s awesome. I am really thankful… and I will try my best to make the UK proud.”
Through contributions promised from various clubs, associations and individuals, Gregor will receive £500 towards the cost of travelling and competing in Canada.
