Mares Preferred Trot To Canaco Runner

She didn't take the shortest route around, but Canaco Runner still made a visit to the winner's circle in Saturday's $15,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Trot at Georgian Downs

Driver Scott Coulter had Canaco Runner sitting fifth in a :27.2 quarter before following cover at the :57 second half. She then tipped three-wide at the three-quarters in 1:27 before kicking home to win in 1:56.1. Saqqara Dream (Stephen Byron) was second and Lady Gambler (Simon Allard) was third.

Canaco Runner is owned by Tourmana Inc and Claude Hamel (both of Quebec) as well as Lapharmaciedekedgwick Inc of Kedgwick, N.B., and trained by Richard Moreau.

It was Canaco Runner's fourth win of the season and pushed her 2009 earnings to $65,952. The four-year-old Promising Catch mare is a 12-time winner with $298,542 earned lifetime.
