Ys Delight swung wide off the last turn and sprinted home to take the $6,000 Preferred 3 Handicap Pace at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday, June 27.

Away from post four, he was first of a leaving trio to reach the pylons but was third by the quarter in :27.1 as Cheddar Bay (Peter Core) quickly took over then released Bayfield Beach (Lorne House). Ys Delight kept to the inside while Bayfield Beach put up panels of :56.4 and 1:25.1, with the leader unpressured until Cheddar Bay popped the pocket turning for home. Mark MacDonell chose the outside path with Ys Delight, swinging him around the duelling leaders as they straightened into the stretch. Cheddar Bay was the one to catch down the lane, and Ys Delight flew home to nab him by a head in 1:54. Bayfield Beach finished third.

Ys Delight, a nine-year-old son of Bettors Delight-Kiss Baby Kiss, struck for the third time in his last five starts for owner-trainer Garry MacDonald of Dundas, Ont. The win was his sixth in 18 attempts this season and improved his career record to 28-for-130 with $187,925 in earnings. He paid $8.80 to win.
