A tightly-matched Preferred 1 field will square off Saturday, June 28 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 15-dash card kicks off at 6 p.m. (ADT) with a $2,017.88 carryover from Thursday night in the Isle Pik 5. The Preferred pacers headline the action in race 14 for a $5,500 purse scheduled to go postward at 9:54 p.m.
Twin B Tuffenuff is the morning line choice at 5-2 odds for driver Gilles Barrieau, who sits second in the 2025 driver’s race in Charlottetown with 31 victories. Ron Matheson trains the 2024 Governor’s Plate Champion for owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown, P.E.I. The 10-year-old son of Rock N Roll Heaven will leave from post four and has been impressive all season with two wins, a second and two thirds to boost his career earnings to $788,229 while racing the top pacers on the Eastern Seaboard. He was third his last start to Save America, who is absent from action this week.
Island Beach Boy will try to turn the tables from post three for driver Jason Hughes and trainer Adam Merner as he finished second his last two starts in quick miles for owners Ian Smith and Arnold Hagen. The son of Somebeachsomewhere has been known to love the front end as he holds the distinction of being the fastest horse ever at the quarter pole in the history of the Charlottetown Driving Park with his :26 opening split in 2022.
All Bets On Tex draws the rail for trainer-driver Merner and owners Marc Gallant, Blair MacLauchlan and Kent Livingston. The pacer makes his second P.E.I. start of the season after racing in Ontario and New York recently.
Odds On Capitalism was a fourth best in his Island debut last week and gets the services of Marc Campbell, Red Shores Charlottetown’s leading driver, from post two for the Chris MacKay stable. The gelded son of Fear The Dragon was a preferred pacer at Woodbine Mohawk Park and has already won in 1:50.3 there this season.
Middleton Terror has drawn post five and is a three-time winner this season in the upper classes for trainer Jennifer Doyle. David Dowling picks up the lines again on the 26-time winner for Kingsley Walsh and Frank Balcom.
High Voltage Deo will leave from post six for the red-hot Corey MacPherson, who steered the horse to victory last week down in class in a 1:52 victory from the Brendan Curran barn. Alby Curran and High Voltage Deo Group of Alberry Plains owns the pacer, who now sits at 26 lifetime wins.
Jackies Boy gets the outside spot in the field from post seven for driver Myles Heffernan Sr., and owner-trainer Myles Heffernan Jr. The son of Tobago Cays finished fifth in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series last week, charting a closing panel of :28.2 in just his second start of the season.
The Post Time Picks see Twin B Tuffenuff as the one to knock off.
“Twin B Tuffenuff looks like he's tuning up to defend his Governor’s Plate title after finishing a close third and pacing his mile in 1:51 last week. There's lots of early speed in this race, so I expect him to stalk from mid-pack and pounce on the leaders late in the mile.”
