P H Mike used front end tactics to win the featured $1,000 Winners Over Pace on Saturday at Northside Downs for horseman Myles Heffernan

With trainer/driver Heffernan aboard for the ride, P H Mike shot off the gate from the outside Post 6 and rolled through fractions of :29.2, :58.3 and 1:28.2. At the top of the stretch, last week’s winner Shifty Shadow (John Hawco) rallied from the back of the pack, but P H Mike was able to dig in down the lane to win in 1:58.2 by nearly two lengths.
Shifty Shadow was second with Odyssey Killean (Edgar Jacobs) rounding out the top three.
Heffernan also owns the seven-year-old Fit For Life gelding who joined his barn in May after racing on the east coast. P H Mike improved his record to 7-4-4 in 16 starts this season. The winner of 30 races lifetime has earned close to $55,000 in his career.
