Matt Kakaley won the third race Friday at Northfield with Memorial Day Bunny ($10.80) and then took the last five races on the card to move to 996 career wins, within four of becoming the youngest driver ever to win 1,000 races
.
There is a very real possibility that Kakaley will shoot for that milestone with Foiled Again in the $100,000 Battle of Lake Erie tonight.
The 21-year-old started his hot streak with Helenes Escape ($9.00) in the 10th and then won with 2-5 Sunset Ball in the 11th. Nude N Naughty ($7.80) made it three in a row for the Michigan native and he then swept the late Daily Double ($5.40) with a pair of 3-5 favourites, Vienna Jenna ($3.20) and Stampede Jenny ($3.40) to wrap up the evening.
