They say a trip to the 7/8 mile track at Vernon Downs will put speed in your horse. That’s exactly what happened to All Deuce, the six-year-old Cams Card Shark mare, who went wire to wire in 1:58.1 to win the $9,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on Friday at Buffalo Raceway
for owner William J. Blumhagen of Long Lake, New York.
All Deuce won that race at Vernon in 1:54.1, and with regular reinsman Ray Fisher, Jr. at the controls at Buffalo, All Deuce ($9.10) went straight to the lead from Post 3, and set all the fractions in the race, :29.1, :59 and 1:28.4. A :29.2 last quarter-mile put the winner a neck in front of Devils Delight (Jim McNeight) at the finish line. R Bs Rocket (Jimmy Whishman) came in third.
“She got good numbers,” said Fisher. “It wasn’t to slow and it wasn’t to fast.”
It was the seventh win of the year for All Deuce, who is trained by Bob Gruber, and the $4,500 share of the winning purse boosted her season bankroll to $33,920 and $115,000 lifetime.
