In the Preferred 2, HP Mama B and Sylvain Filion powered to victory in their field of eight co-ed trotters to take the winner's share of the $32,000 purse on Monday evening (June 26) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Filion grabbed second behind Locatelli (James MacDonald) as they passed the opening panel in :27.3. Filion pulled his right line and continued first over through the half in :56.3 before clearing the top. Once at the lead, HP Mama B distanced herself from the field to maintain her lead by three lengths as they passed the three-quarters in 1:23.4. Down the stretch, her rivals tried to catch her, but she continued forward to a one-length victory in 1:52. Patriarch Hanover (Doug McNair) finished second while Franks Angel (Bob McClure) was third.
HP Mama B is a five-year-old daughter of Royalty For Life-Winters Jewel that boasts 19 wins and $652,083 in her career. Ben Baillargeon trains the mare for owners Guylaine Picard and Celine Paquin. She paid $12.70 to win.
