The second longest shot on the board, King Kactus, reigned supreme in the $20,000 Pop-Up Series Trot Final at Georgian Downs on Sunday (June 26).

Driver Tyler Borth floated the Blair Burgess trainee off the wins to sit third while 7-5 favourite Arch Adam reached the lead after a :28.1 first quarter. Magical Major marched first over off the pegs from fifth into a :58.1 half but gave chase as Arch Adam slipped three lengths clear to three-quarters in 1:27.1. Meanwhile, Borth sat unhurried with King Kactus, though he soon uncorked the three-year-old Creatine colt coming to the final turn and slowly reeled in the temposetter spinning off the corner. He lunged late for the lead and edged by Arch Adam to post a 1-1/4-length upset in 1:56.3. Magical Major held third, another four lengths behind, with Royal Leaf another eight lengths back in fourth.

King Kactus returned $108 to win in snagging his second win from nine starts and pushing his bankroll to $19,760 for owners Karin Olsson Burgess, Linnea Lindstrom and James Walker.
