Ohio Hall of Famer Chip Noble drove the winners of both divisions of Sunday’s Scioto River Trot at Scioto Downs

.

The first went to Swing Anna Cash, a three-year-old lass by Cash Hall, trained by Dee Hotton, who also owns the winner in partnership with Bruce Hotton. Noble drove to her to a comfortable victory, making up for her poor performance last week at Scioto when she suffered broken equipment. Swing Anna Cash challenged entry-mate TTs Honey Bun in the final quarter and trotted past that filly in the stretch to win in 2:00 by a half-length. Jailhouse Funk rallied late to snag second-money over TTs Honey Bun.

The winner and TTs Honey Bun were part of an entry that was sent off at 3-5 odds. It was the first win in four starts this season for Swing Anna Cash.

Later on the program, Noble won the second division of the series with Fire In The Cell, trained by Danny Collins for Slaughter Racing Stable LLC of Kentucky. The sophomore daughter of Jailhouse Jesse covered the mile in 1:58.2 for her third win in six starts.

Noble shot Fire In The Cell to the front at the start of the race and never looked back. She drew off in the stretch to win by three and a quarter lengths. Lima Legend challenged the pacesetter but had to settle for second place. Sack Full Of Gold passed tiring horses to grab the show dough.

The afternoon’s 12-race card started with a bang when Tyler Smith drove Cagey Sam to victory, lighting up the toteboard with a $60 payoff. It was the three-year-old pacer’s maiden win in 17 starts and he held off the challenge of favoured Taxed and J.D. Wengerd.

The five-year-old trotting mare Agency Discount lowered her record almost 24 seconds in winning the afternoon’s third race. The daughter of Revenue S had won in 2:25.2 as a three-year-old in 2009, but dropped her mark to 2:01.3 on Sunday for Wengerd and trainer-owner Jessica Schroeder. Her winning margin was eight and a quarter lengths.

Racing resumes at Scioto on July 1. There will be night racing at Friday and Saturday and then afternoon cards on Sunday and Independence Day. Scioto will host Ohio Sires Stakes on Saturday evening and Monday afternoon.
