In the $9,000 Open Handicap Trot, Hello Carlo, a Carry The Message gelding out of the Supergill mare Last Turn, won in 2:00.2 to register his seventh win of the season for owner Mario Caponi of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio

.

Hello Carlo ($3.90), capably driven by the meet's leading reinsman Jack Flanigen, settled in seventh in the field of eight as Jack Sparrow (Jim McNeight) set the early fraction, :29.4 to the quarter-mile mark. Hello Carlo was first over and challenged for the lead to a half in 1:00.3 and three-quarters in 1:30.2. A :30 last quarter-mile put Hello Carlo a neck in front of St Regis Hall (Jamie Dunlap) at the finish line. Redneck Reindeer (Ken Holliday) came in third.

“Any horse that can be first-over for three-quarters of a mile is a tough horse,” said Flanigen. “He [Hello Carlo] raced real big.”

Trained by Larry Clabaugh, the $4,500 share of the winning purse put Hello Carlo’s season bankroll at $41,430, and $122,580 lifetime.
