Three-year-old pacing filly Hey Hey Mama equalled the world record for fastest female pacer on a half-mile track with a sizzling score in the Ohio Sires Stakes on Saturday evening (June 24) at Northfield Park.
Trained by Brian Brown, Hey Hey Mama matched the all-age female record of 1:49.3 set by Party Girl Hill as a three-year-old in a 2020 Jugette heat at Delaware County Fair and co-held by aged mare Ellagator after her own speedy tour of Northfield last June.
Ronnie Wrenn Jr. drove the Downbytheseaside-Rolluptherim filly to victory in the first of two $55,000 third leg divisions of the Ohio Sires Stakes on the card.
The :26.4 opening quarter was full of action as Super Girl (Billy Davis Jr.) used her quick-leaving powers to take command off the gate then Dragon By The Sea (Chris Page) worked her way by for a brief appearance on top as Hey Hey Mama moved underway after getting shuffled to third. After getting to the front, Wrenn rated a half in :55 with Hey Hey Mama and the 3-5 favourite then cruised to three-quarters in 1:22.1. Hysterical (Jason Thompson) was advancing first-over with the fillies stacked wide down backstretch, but Hey Hey Mama drew off with a :27.2 final frame to win by 3-1/4 lengths in record time. Super Girl rallied back on for second and Hysterical finished third.
Unraced as a two-year-old, Hey Hey Mama is now six-for-eight with two other top three finishes and has banked $88,500 for owners ountry Club Acres Inc., Milton Leeman, Joe Sbrocco and Acadia Farms Inc.
Hey Hey Mama paid $3.20 to win.
The other division was won by reigning Ohio champion filly Mcseaside and driver Chris Page in 1:50.2 for trainer Ron Burke. The Downbytheseaside-Mcgibson filly defeated the pocket-popping Fear Of Sports (Wrenn) by a half-length with the popular pacesetter, Angel Hill (Luke Ebersole), third. A six-time career winner with nearly $390,000 in purses from 17 starts, Mcseaside is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Beasty LLC, Jandt Silva Stables LLC and Knox Services Inc.
