The son of Sweet Lou and Princess Character, a half-brother to six-figure earners Queen Josephine and Rocknrollroyalty, travelled comfortably on the lead through a :58 first half before accelerating clear through the far turn in line to Sylvain Filion. Lyons Lou began to establish separation over his seven foes through a :28 third quarter, and then blazed home in :27.4 to defeat Dreamfair Arnie B by 2-1/2 lengths for trainer Anthony Beaton and Threelyonsracing of Brantford, Ont.

Betterhavemymoney sprinted out of an earned pocket for a 1:55.2 qualifying win, using :28.1 stretch speed to evade Rockaway Bay by 4-1/2 lengths. James MacDonald drove Millar Farms' homebred son of Betterthancheddar and Whosluckierthanme for trainer Nick Gallucci.

Of the rookie trotters, Duly Resolved was the only one to record a 2:00 mile, squarely hitting the benchmark time by way of cosy early fractions and a :29.1 sprint home under Paul MacDonell. The half-brother of multiple Ontario Sire Stakes Gold winner Bright Eyes M kept Delgado two lengths at bay for trainer John Bax, whose Bax Stable shares ownership with Dave Hudson, Don Allensen and the Gaelic Stable.
