No Slots For New Hampshire

Published: June 25, 2009 11:09 am EDT

An $11.5 billion budget was approved yesterday in New Hampshire. Instead of paving the way for slot machines, lawmakers opted for nearly three dozen tax and fee hikes.

The news comes courtesy of eagletribune.com. The decision ensures that the topic of Rockingham Park getting slots will not be heard until at least the next legislative session.

The report states that local Republican legislators criticized the $11.5 billion budget and said that the process was rushed.

"It was rushed. It was put together and finalized Thursday and into the wee hours on Friday," representative D.J. Bettencourt was quoted as saying. "That's a lot of information for people to condense in that amount of time."
