The second leg of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund Stakes for three-year-old filly trotters is now complete after 10 fillies went to post over two divisions Tuesday at Harrington Raceway.
Art Stafford Jr. and Wyatt Starkey’s Overnight Hit ($3.80, Art Stafford, Jr.) was the fastest elimination winner with a three-length score over Kelseys Commando and Linbo Love in 1:59.4. The Giant Hit-sired filly charged by pacesetter Kelseys Commando at the top of the stretch and drew clear impressively. It was the fourth win of the season for Overnight Hit, who is trained by her driver and co-owner Art Stafford, Jr.
Stop the Jade Farm’s Bellas Spunkin ($3, Allan Davis) took the earlier division in 2:01.2 over Oso Grateful and Some Sweet Lady. The Super Punk-sired filly surged by tempo setter Oso Grateful in mid-stretch for a narrow win. Trained by Joe King, Bellas Spunkin notched her third win of the year.
In the overnight feature, Jason Johnson’s My Ideal Hanover ($8, Victor Kirby) recorded her third straight win in the $17,000 Mares Open in 1:53 for trainer Jay Gannon. The five-year-old Western Ideal mare was a front end winner over Mach Lady and Sucha Bad Girl.
Allan Davis had four winners on the program. Bret Brittingham had a driving triple.
The $100,000 DSBF finals will be held on Governor’s Day during the Delaware State Fair, July 24, with a special 7 p.m. post time.
The Wednesday program features undefeated three-year-old trotting gelding I Like My Boss (9/5, Jon Roberts) who has won all 10 of his lifetime starts. He will head the first of two divisions of the DSBF stakes for trotting colts. The Bob Shahan-trainee drew post five in the seven horse field, slated as the first race on the 14-race program. The second division is carded as the eighth race.
