Six For The Des Smith

A compact field of six high-speed older pacers are set to contest the 29th renewal of the Des Smith Pace this Sunday at Rideau Carleton Raceway, which includes one supplemental entry and four other free-for-allers

looking to dethrone the divisional kingpin.

From Post 3, all eyes will be on Bigtime Ball, who comes into the event with two straight Open class wins at Mohawk, the best time (1:49) and most wins (five) on the season. Regular pilot Paul MacDonell will be at the controls for trainer-owner Gord Irwin.

Eight-year-old import Awesome Armbro N has quickly acclimatized to North American harness racing, as the Isaac Waxman owned and trained Armbro Operative gelding reeled off an impressive 1:50.2 score last week at Mohawk.

Waxman has ponied up the $10,000 supplemental entry fee and will line up just to Bigtime Ball's outside in Post 4. J.R. Plante will drive.

Filling out the fast field of pacers includes Lucky Man (Post 1, Mark MacDonald), Dali (Post 2, Luc Ouellette), Go Go Solano (Post 5, Brett Miller) and Anderlecht (Post 6, Jody Jamieson).
