In what's sure to be a good sign for her connections, it appears that two-year-old pacing filly Ann likes to be first.

Here's what we know about Ann, a two-year-old pacing filly by Hes Watching out of Addicted To Love.

  • She's the first Hes Watching offspring from her dam.
  • She sold as Hip #1 (for $33,000) at the 2022 London Classic Yearling Sale.
  • She had the rail in her first qualifier, which she won on June 15 at Woodbine Mohawk Park in 1:58.
  • She started next in the first dash on June 23 at Mohawk, and finished first again -- this time in 1:55, the fastest mile of the June 23 qualifying session at Mohawk.
  • She's the first foal of racing age from her dam, and she now sports the fastest mark of those three starters.

Wilma & James MacKenzie of Ennismore, Ont. hold the papers on Ann, who is trained by Dr. Ian Moore. Trevor Henry has driven Ann on both occasions.

Karens Dream made her second appearance of the season, and the rookie trotter has been a winner both times. Prevailing in 2:07.3 two weeks ago, Karens Dream dropped seven seconds off that time with a wire-to-wire win in 2:00.3 on Friday morning.

Beau Brown was at the controls of the Lookslikeachpndale - Uneeda Dream rookie, who started and ended her mile with :28.4 quarters after a middle half in 1:03. She bested pocket-sitter Queen Cabal (Sylvain Filion) by three parts of a length with Go Have Fun (Mark Etsell) edging Massive Tattoo (Roger Mayotte) for third.

Karens Dream was a $25,000 London Classic Yearling Sale buy of trainer Duncan Brewer and co-owner Randy Urquhart of Hamilton.

Tea Lake missed by a neck to Karens Dreams in her debut two weeks ago, but she made every call a winning one on Friday morning. With trainer Rick Zeron at the controls, Tea Lake trotted on top through fractions of :30, 1:01.4 and 1:32.2 before confidently trotting home in :28.1 for the 2:00.3 mile time, matching Karens Dream with the fastest trotting mile time of the morning. Mass Cara (Trevor Henry) and Kinnder Hotblood (Matt Bax) rounded out the top trio.

A daughter of Kadabra - Chapter Heaven, Tea Lake is owned by breeders James Walker and Dean Lockhart along with Jeff Ruch and Rick Zeron Stables.

The full qualifying session is available below. Qualifiers resume on Saturday (June 24) with another dozen baby races, this one for the intact boys and their altered brethren.

Keeping with the theme of this article, Ann was seen alive first by Dean and Ashley Wilson as they bred, raised and sold her. Congratulations on the start to her two year old season and excited to follow her throughout this year.
