Trump That won his career debut for trainer David Menary as two-year-olds were in the spotlight early Friday evening (June 23) at Mohawk Racetrack.
Leaving from post four in the $14,000 second race for two-year-old male pacers, Trump That and driver Jody Jamieson secured a pocket trip as post eight starter Atthebeach Hanover (Mike Saftic) crossed to command into the first turn and his stablemate Hello You (Gino Toscani), leaving out from post six, settled into a three-hole.
Trump That followed Atthebeach Hanover through fractions of :27.1, :57.4 and 1:27.3 with Notabadgame (Randy Waples) advancing first-up from the backfield.
Down the stretch, Notabadgame reeled in Atthebeach Hanover while Thor De Vie (Phil Hudon) rallied onto the scene from the outer flow. Meanwhile, Trump That was loaded with pace but locked in behind those three freshmen until Jamieson maneuvered him to the far outside and set sail in deep stretch, getting up for the victory in 1:56.2 with his final quarter clocked in :28.3. Thor De Vie finished second ahead of Notabadgame.
Sent postward as the 2-5 favourite off a 1:55.4 qualifying mile on June 11, Trump That paid $2.90 to win.
Trump That is a bay son of Somebeachsomewhere out of Dragon Again mare Michelle My Gal. The colt, who is a full-brother to the Menary campaigned $500,000-earner Beach Gal, was an $80,000 yearling purchase from the 2016 Lexington Selected Sale by Ontario owners Menary Racing Inc., Michael Guerriero, Kenneth Ewen, and Bruce Norris.
