Abundaspin and trainer-driver Harold Shepherd erased the aged trot track record at Red Shores Summerside Sunday afternoon.

The 13-year-old trotting gelding won the $1,800 Open Trot in 1:59.3 over Buckling Banbury (Corey MacPherson) and Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass). The previous aged gelding track record of 2:00.1 was set by Waiting On A Woman and Brodie MacPhee on October 14, 2012. Waiting On A Woman also holds the overall trot track record of 1:59.1 – a record he set in 2011 as a three-year-old. Abundaspin is owned by Mikaela Lustic of Warren Grove, PEI.

The afternoon feature pace was claimed by locally owned Roccos Cavallo as he picked off New Brunswick invader Manraysonjo in late stretch.

The $1,850 event had the Brian Embleton-trained Manraysonjo map out early fractions of :28.4, :57.4, and 1:27.3 with Kenny Arsenault at the lines. Roccos Cavallo was fourth at the top of the stretch but surged past Manraysonjo to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:56.3. Manraysonjo was second with Pembroke Fella (Brian MacPhee) finishing third.

Roccos Cavallo, who paid $24.80 to win, is co-owned by Tyler Desroches with co-owner Justin Desroches of Summerside, PEI.

Sea Anna Win became PEI’s first two-year-old pari-mutuel winner of the season. The Earl Smith-trained and driven filly was a winner in 2:03.4 in the afternoon’s second race. The Ameripan Gigolo filly is owned by Tim Banks of Charlottetown, PEI.

Driver Walter Cheverie opened and closed the day winning with Keystone Nobility in 1:57.1 in Race 1 for trainer Alan Taylor and Owner Alan Livingston, and Amile To Remember in 1:59.2 in Race 13 for trainer Pat Murphy and owner Paul Weeks. Terry Gallant also scored a driving double with Flaming Prince (1:57.3) and Laughing Example (1:57.4) for trainer Thane Mann.
