He was 12-1 in the betting, but no one told In Theory that he wasn’t competitive as he breezed to an easy 1:52.2 win in Saturday’s Open Pace at Scioto Downs.

The six-year-old son of Allamerican Theory was driven to victory by Kayne Kauffman for trainer Lynda Brewer and the Rocking Meadows Stable of Indiana.

The field seemed well-balanced based on the toteboard with Docs Yankee the 5-2 favourite. Driver Chris Page sent him away fast from his outside post to grab control at the first station in :26.1. Kauffman had In Theory in fourth place along the inside.

After reaching the half-mile pole in :55.4, Docs Yankee was challenged by In Theory, followed by Hangone Cowboy. Docs Yankee had no fight left in him and In Theory sailed past him and it was obvious the race was for second as In Theory held a two length lead coming into the stretch. He coasted to the wire to win by four and three-quarter lengths, triggering a $26 payoff for a $2 win ticket.

Pin Stripes edged Hangone Cowboy for second place.

The win was the first in a dozen starts this season for In Theory, who had been racing at Hoosier Park earlier this season.
