Northville Downs is closing out its spring meet in style this weekend (June 24-25). A total of $469,900 in purses will be on the line for horsepeople competing at the metro Detroit half-mile oval.
Friday features two undercard races starting at 6 p.m., plus 12 regular card events starting at 7:30 p.m. Among those on Friday night is the featured TrackMaster Rating Series Final (Race 8) for trotters going for a purse of $28,000. The seven-horse event includes Omyheart, a winner of 17 of 33 career races; last week’s winner Enchanted Mission, who has already won eight races on the year; and Empire Earl N, a 14-year-old who has won 38 times lifetime, boasts a lifetime top-three finish percentage of 55.98 per cent and more than $370,000 in lifetime earnings. In addition to the exciting racing on Friday, Northville Downs will offer their well-received dollar night where fans can grab $1 live programs, $1 popcorn, $1 pop and $2 hot dogs.
Saturday’s program offers 12 action-packed races including the main event in Race 8 (purse of $28,000) that boasts the likes of Northville Downs’ all-time pacing track record holder (1:52) Southwind Amazon, a millionaire son of Camluck who nabbed career win 119 last week over the Northville, Michigan oval, and two other track record holders in Princess Rockette, who set the Northville Downs aged mare pacing record on April 30, 2022 in 1:54, and Top Notch, who set the ‘still-standing’ four-year-old gelding pacing record back in 2018 in 1:52.2. In addition, Techia Lohmann’s Lying In Cash (trained by Scott Galloway) will throw his hooves in the ring following a string of Open wins this meet and finishing a fast-closing second to Southwind Amazon last week in 1:53.3. With temperatures forecast to be in the 90s on Saturday, the potential is there for more track records to fall. First race post time for Saturday is 7:30 p.m.
After this weekend, Northville Downs will resume live racing on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022 when it will resume the regular Friday and Saturday night schedule with post time at 7:30 p.m. each race night through Dec. 17, 2022.
