Tamarind Repeats In Preferred

Tamarind made it two straight in The Meadows’ top trot with another first-over victory in Monday’s $18,000 Preferred Handicap.

Tamarind was sitting fourth down the backside when Aaron Merriman sent him after the leader, Tall Cotton. Much as he did last week, the seven-year-old son of Angus Hall Spicegirl Kosmos wore down Tall Cotton and defeated him by a length in 1:52.3, a tick off the track record for older horses. Trustworthy Kid finished third.

Bill Bercury owns and trains Tamarind, who now boasts $656,044 in career earnings.

Tony Hall piloted four winners on the 14-race card.

The Meadows will offer two total-pool guarantees — a $10,000 guarantee for the Pick 5 and a $5,000 guarantee for the Pick 4 - during Tuesday's card of racing. Both are offered as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative.

While the $5,000 Pick 4 guarantee is a regular feature of each live program, The Meadows added the 'instant' Pick 5 guarantee after Monday’s Pick 5 was uncovered, resulting in a two-day carryover of $2,826.91.

Minimum wager for the Pick 4 (races 4-7) and Pick 5 (races 10-14) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets.

First post for Tuesday’s program is 12:55 p.m.
