Hanover Hosts Pepsi Night

It was a perfect night for Pepsi Night at the races at Hanover Raceway. A large crowd was on hand for the first buffet of the season in the new Coach House Restaurant and the festivities included $2,000 worth of prizes courtesy of Pepsi in Owen Sound.

On the track, four different drivers had a double win night.

Tom Smith started it off winning Race 1 with Star Struck Luck which he trains and co-owns with Jayne Walker of Holland Centre. Smith also won Race 9 with Whiskey Wisdom for owner Lema Chapple of Wingham in 1:56.2, the fastest mile of the night. Lorne House had the biggest payout of the night when he won Race 4 with Zorgwijk Ophelia at 124-1. The three-year-old filly paid $251.90 to win. House also won Race 8 with Sharon The Moment for Susan Downey of St George, Ontario.

Bruce Richardson had a driving double with Clementine in Race 5 for owner Colleen Fox of Brantford and won Race 7 with Gracies Harmony for owner Allan Steeves of London. Also hitting the board with two wins was J Harris, who won with Dostal Alley in Race 3 for owner Joanne Pond of Hawkstone and Race 6 with Hope You Had Fun for owner Russ Ellis of Elmira in 1:57.

Close to 1,000 attended Pepsi Night and some of the biggest cheers were for the finish of the Miniature Horse Race, which took place after Race 3. The quarter-mile dash featured six miniature horses and it ended in a photo finish with Royal Bs Hawk narrowing out Elysiums Norma Jean at the wire.

Hanover Raceway features Hockeyville Night on Saturday, June 28. Teens and children 13 and under wearing a hockey jersey can enter to win one of several bicycles donated by Hanover Canadian Tire. Post time is 7:15 p.m.
