Kiddie McCardle and Corey Braden took home Friday night’s $16,500 featured Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace at Tioga Downs.
Leaving from post position number three in a field of seven, Braden settled Kiddie McCardle in third as Itstimeformetofly (Lewayne Miller) was on top through an opening quarter in :26.4. Runaway Tray (Jim Taggart Jr.), last week’s winner, sat in the pocket past the half-mile mark of the race in :56.
As the field straightened up, Kiddie McCardle applied heavy first over pressure through a third panel in :27.4, reaching three-quarters in 1:23.4. Around the final turn, Braden cleared to the front and coasted home a winner, lengths in front of Runaway Tray, who shook loose for second, while Bunny In The Bank (Jim Meittinis) closed late for third.
The win was the seventh of the year for Kiddie McCardle, who is owned and bred by Mark Goldberg of Washington, Pennsylvania and is trained by David Duspiva. With the win, Kiddie McCardle pushed her seasonal earnings to more than $73,000.
