The sultry summer weather at Buffalo Raceway was conducive for some speedy times, and Davey Day Trader ($5.60) didn't disappoint as he scorched the field in a lifetime best of 1:53 in the $21,622 Open Pace on Saturday, June 21.

With temperatures around 30°C with humid air, Davey Day Trader (David McNeight III) wasted little time in firing to the front. Fresh off a 4-3/4-length decision last week in 1:54.3, Davey Day Trader played catch-me-if-you-can with the field with red-hot splits of :28.2, :57 and 1:24.4.

Enjoying a 2-1/2-length lead reaching the top of the stretch, Davey Day Trader left little doubt who was the best as he fired off a :28.1 final quarter to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Annapolis Hanover (Kyle Cummings). Frontier Rollo (Kyle Swift) finished third.

Co-owned by James Costa and Pete Kibler, the five-year-old Davey Day Trader (Huntsville-Gigi Deo) has now won five times in 11 appearances in 2025 and 17 of 70 in his career. Trained by David McNeight Jr., Davey Day Trader has now earned $55,267 on the campaign and $167,859 lifetime.

Trainer Samuel Smith also put together a big performance on the card with three winners. He won his first start of the day with Handsoffmytitos ($7.50) in the fourth race, made it a double as I Aint No Mack ($2.30) won first off the claim in the ninth, and Smith completed his afternoon as Panettone Hanover ($2.30) captured the finale. With the three victories, Smith reached the 400-win mark.

Jim Morrill Jr. stayed on a big roll as he collected another four victories on the card while Drew Monti and Swift each posted triples. Trainer Christopher Petrelli notched two wins.

Racing will continue on Wednesday, June 25 with a 15-race program set for 2:30 p.m.
