With a first-over assault in the final quarter, Rosetown Mary and trainer/driver Corey MacPherson won the Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on a rescheduled Friday evening, June 21 card at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 11-race program was originally scheduled for Thursday but pushed a day later due to a mid-week heat wave that blanketed the province.
Rosetown Mary was unhurried in the $3,700 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace as she got away fourth and watched the favoured pacesetter Pasta Momma (Marc Campbell) slam out the opening fractions of :29 and :57.4. MacPherson then moved his charge to the outside and powered up after the three-quarters of 1:26.4 to win by a length in 1:55.1 for owners Rosetown Stable and Taylor MacPherson. Pasta Momma was second with Tobins Brownie (David Dowling) third.
Rosetown Mary paid $5.20 to win while improving her seasonal record to 3-3-1 from seven starts.
MacPherson also scored wins with the Carl Bagnall-trained Rocket Blast (2:00.1) and with Windmeredontuworry (1:59) for trainer Kyle Desroche as part of a driving triple. The three-win night moves MacPherson into fifth place in the driver’s standings at Red Shores Charlottetown.
Dowling continued his dominance of the driver’s ranks as he drove three winners, including Iselbetu Islebeatu (1:58.1) for trainer Brendan Mullen, Woodmere Heather M (1:57.1) for the mare’s fifth straight victory from the Jennifer Doyle barn and his own Elm Grove Redwine (1:55.4) in the finale. Dowling's driving triple gives him 38 wins on the season in Charlottetown.
Trainer Mike McGuigan doubled up as Freaky Fanny won in 1:56.3 in line to the conditioner and Woodmere Kennedie (Campbell) scored in 2:00.1.
