Jolene Volo found a late seam between horses and poured through to spring a 14-1 upset in Wednesday’s co-feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $10,900 filly and mare conditioned trot.
As the field turned for home, Muscle Envy was on the lead with Sweet Dough challenging outside and Jolene Volo in the pocket with no immediate racing room. But when Sweet Dough bore out, that was the opportunity Jolene Volo and Jeremy Indof needed. They found the path and scored in a career-best 1:57.4, 1-1/2 lengths better than Sweet Dough, with Muscle Envy third.

In one of Wednesday’s other $10,900 co-features, Quinndelynn seized the lead from post seven, stared down the 2-5 favourite, Yippie Hanover, and blew up the toteboard at 92-1, one of the priciest winners this year at The Meadows. The three-year-old daughter of Sante Fe Beachboy-Give No Lip triumphed in 1:54.2 in a filly and mare conditioned pace for trainer/driver Wilbur Yoder and owner David Nolan.
Fifth Ave Julie continued the day’s “upsets” theme by scoring at 9-1 in another co-featured filly and mare conditioned pace. The daughter of Heston Blue Chip-Parkavenuejulieann earned a life mark 1:54.4 for Brian Zendt, trainer Bill Zendt and owners Bay Pond Racing Stable and Let It Ride Stables.
Dave Palone piloted four winners on the 12-race card, including a pair for trainer Ron Burke.
Live harness racing at The Meadows continues Thursday when the 12-race program features a pair of carryovers — $2,683.67 in the Early Pentefecta (Race 4), $578.55 in the Pick 5 (Race 8). First post is 12:45 p.m.
