Although Maven was a fairly convincing winner in the Armbro Flight Final last Saturday at Mohawk, her nemesis from last year is nearing a return to racing. And if her first qualifier is any indication, Check Me Out is ready to heat up the summer stakes schedule.
On Thursday morning, the trotting filly that won divisional honours as both the Dan Patch and O'Brien Award winner at two and three made the move to trotting mare status and scorched the Mohegan Sun Pocono oval in a time of 1:54.2, punctuated by a middle half in a sizzling :55.
Check Me Out has banked more than $1.85 million in two seasons of racing for owners Ray Schnittker and Charles Iannazzo, winning 25 of 31 starts and setting multiple world records along the way - including a 1:51.3f world record at Pocono last year.
Trainer and co-owner Schnittker stated that Check Me Out would be pointed for the stakes later in the season including the 2013 Breeders Crown. Schnittker told Trot Insider that Check Me Out will qualify once more before being dropped in the box.
