Sweetasmusic continued her winning ways in Thursday’s third round of the $30,000 Indiana Gold Sire Stakes for three-year-old trotting fillies at Hoosier Park

.

Notching her fifth consecutive win, and third sire stakes win of 2012, the reigning freshman filly trotting champ turned in a gutsy performance to win in 1:58 for driver/trainer Walter Haynes, Jr.

Getting away a worrisome ninth as the even money favourite, Sweetasmusic sat off the pace as Antie M and Richard Reisert dictated first half fractions of :27.3. and :58.2. JS Foxy Lady inherited a perfect trip after the pocket sitting, Shes Country and Charlie Conrad made a costly break down the backside. Trace Tetrick was the first to commit as he had the public’s second choice, Cincinnati Star, aimed at the leader and first over around the final turn. As the field began to tighten, Sweetasmusic was perfectly positioned for the stretch drive third over. Cincinnati Star was able to put a nose in front around the three-quarter mark of 1:29.1 and the race to the wire was on.

Tipping three wide, Sweetasmusic saved the best for last, strutting home with a :28 final panel to earn the win by four and a half lengths during the rainy evening. Cincinnati Star endured a tough first over journey to finish second over JS Foxy Lady and Dillander for third. Sweetasmusic returned $4.00 to win.

Walter Haynes, Jr. trains and also co-owns the brown filly with the Y Not Racing Stable. Sweetasmusic won three of her 12 starts last year while bankrolling over $217,000 in earnings throughout her freshman campaign. Sired by Gut Instinct, the sophomore filly is now five for six in 2012 with over $270,000 in the bank.
