Calgary Seelster Surfaces At 'The Hawk'

A trio of baby races highlighted Mohawk Racetrack's 10-race qualifying session on Tuesday, June 21

The two-year-old dashes were programmed as the first three races on the docket, which was contested over a 'fast' track.'

The opening race saw the Randy Waples-driven and Shawn Robinson-trained filly Legal Entity (Modern Art--Legal Wish, by Mach Three) participate in her second-ever qualifier. After having been forwardly-placed, the brown lass worked her way to the lead by the 1:30.2 three-quarters of a mile marker and kicked home with a :27.3 final panel. The win time was 1:58 and the margin of victory was a half-length.

With his trainer Joe Hudon in the bike, Who Doesnt (Mach Three--Labor Of Love, by Western Hanover) went gate-to-wire in 1:56.4 in what was his charted debut. The winning margin was three-quarters of a length.

Tambora (Camotion--Wendy My Gal, by Jate Lobell) was tops in the third qualifier for driver Jason Brewer. The brown colt started from Post 3 and wasn't headed in the 1:58.2 mile. Tambora is trained by Gregg McNair, who is also the conditioner of record of top four finishers in the dash.

A trio of trotting juveniles faced older competition in Race 4. The youngsters (Ticket To Broadway, 2:00.3; Stonebridge Catch, 2:02.4; Ithinkshestheone, 2:03.4) finished out of the top three. The race was won by three-year-old Mutineer filly Promising Lass in 1:59.3.

The session also marked the return of the 2011 Apaches Fame Stakes and Youthful Stakes champion Calgary Seelster. The three-year-old Modern Art colt took a pocket trip in to the lane for driver Phil Hudon and trainer Murray Preszcator before getting up for a head win in 1:54.1.
