Mohawk Racetrack gave its fans a chance to see two-year-olds in action for the first time over the Campbellville, Ontario oval as seven freshmen fillies lined up
on the gate in a $16,000 tilt.
Lyons Carrie, a daughter of Camluck-Odds On Stienam, did most of the roadwork in the mile en route to breaking her maiden at first asking for the team of driver Jody Jamieson and trainer Shawn Robinson.
Jamieson ducked into the four hole when the starting gate sped away, and he managed to chase the battling tandem of Hi Maintenancechic and Mach Lady to the quarter pole in :28.1. As soon as the field hit the backstretch, Lyons Carrie hit the throttle. She powered to the top just as the field passed by the mid-way point in :58.2.
Lyons Carrie streaked past the three-quarter pole in 1:28.2 before firing home in :27.4 en route to the 2-1/2 lengths score in 1:56.1. Imagine Semalu, who was sixth at the three-quarter pole, uncorked a :26.3 final frame of her own to finish second. Third prize went to Hi Maintenancechic.
Geoffrey Lyons Mound of Burford, ON holds the papers on the youngster, who was purchased for $38,000 at last Fall’s Forest City Yearling Sale. The filly is the second foal out of a Western Hanover sister to Fan Hanover Stakes finalist, Put On A Show (1:50 - $999,898).
