Christina Gillis' Harry G ($2.90) dug deep amid a three-horse stretch battle to prevail in Sunday's (June 20) featured $2,000 winners-over pace at Truro Raceway.
The four-year-old Rollwithitharry gelding and driver Ernie Laffin enjoyed a cosy pocket ride behind American Risk (Paul Langille) through a :56.1 first half, but angled off the pegs with three-eighths to go to engage the leader. The two duelled past three-quarters in 1:25.3, and Harry G reached the lead off the home turn — but a fresh foe emerged in the form of the stand-side Imalookertoo (Danny Romo) upon straightening for home. Harry G found the line in time, holding off Imalookertoo by a driven three-quarters of a length in 1:55. American Risk was a valiant third.
Duncan Gillis trains Harry G, who earned his third win of the season and the 12th of his career.
Before the card, Kevin Dorey and Bob Sumarah's Woodmere Stealdeal posted his second qualifying mile in preparation for his upcoming sophomore stakes campaign. The gelded son of Steelhead Hanover, who was a perfect 13-for-13 as a rookie, drilled a :27.4 first quarter before rating a 1:02.1 middle half and sprinting off again through a :27.2 closing sectional to win by five lengths. Trainer Danny Romo handled the driving duties.
