Three-year-old trotter Boli has found recent success at Mohawk Racetrack and on Friday night the regally bred gelding earned his second consecutive win while lowering his lifetime mark to 1:55.3.
In an $18,000 conditioned event for non-winners of two races or $40,000 lifetime, Boli was the 3-1 third choice on the toteboard behind four-year-old mare Game On Hanover riding a two race win streak -- the 8-5 favourite despite an outside post -- and fellow sophomore Homen Dry starting closest to the pylons.
Driven by James MacDonald, the Nifty Norman-trained Boli left from the middle of the field with Wizard Of Osney matching strides and clearing at the :27.4 first quarter pole. Boli brushed by that foe on the backside with Homen Dry hot on his heels and taking over command as they hit half in :57.4. Homen Dry trotted on to three-quarters in 1:27.1 before MacDonald tipped Boli out of the pocket at the top of the stretch and edged by for the narrow victory. Homen Dry was a neck back while Lexus Rocky finished third over Wizard Of Osney two and a half lengths behind. Game On Hanover was fifth.
Hailing from a family of top performers, the son of Kadabra and the multiple stakes-winning mare Pizza Dolce is a full brother to Bella Dolce ($753,133, 1:54.2) and Miss Paris ($869,923, 1:54.2) as well as the 2014 Lexington Selected Sale topper Bene Bene, whose $400,000 price tag was a record for Ontario-sired trotters. A six-figure Lexington yearling himself, Boli was purchased by Melvin Hartman and David McDuffee.
In six sophomore starts, Boli boasts a perfect three-for-three record racing over the Mohawk racetrack. After starting his 2015 campaign at The Meadowlands, Boli scored a maiden-breaking victory on May 21 at Mohawk. Rebounding from a break in stride during the first Ontario Sires Stakes Gold leg at The Raceway at the Western Fair District the following week, Boli has put together two consecutive winning efforts this month at Mohawk.
