Followers of standardbred racing like nothing better than seeing fleet-footed equines don a saddle, take a rider on their backs and go for a whirl.
That is exactly what is going to be happening this Sunday (June 24) at St. Hugues in Quebec.
Scheduled as a non-wagering event during St. Hugues' 11-race program, a field of five pacers racing under saddle will go head to head.
The non-wagering race is to promote the versatility of the standardbred and to try to bring more fans to the racetrack.
The race is going to be contested at a mile distance. The horses will start behind the starting gate and wear hopples, just the same as a normal standardbred race.
The list of horses and their drivers appears below.
Driver - Horse
Anne-Marie Demers - Gadget
Sophie Desroches - Windleaves Dreamer
Odile Letellier - Some Hearts
Marie-Hélène Dupont - Lomboskyrider
Jean-Philippe Mercier - Zorgwijk Intensify
