P H Tornado his own track record at St. Johns Raceway on Sunday afternoon when he toured the Newfoundland half-miler in 1:57.3 for trainer/driver Gord Fleming

P H Tornado, who was sent off as the 3-5 favourite in the Preferred Pace, laid down fractions of :28.1, :57.1 and 1:26.4 before cruising home in :30.4 to win by 25-1/2 lengths. The Usual Suspect was a distant second and Machthemoment was third.

The 1:57.3 clocking chopped a full second off his previous track standard for aged pacing geldings of 1:58.3 set on September 27, 2009.

The five-year-old son of Grinfromeartoear, who pushed his winning streak to eight-in-a-row dating back to September 20, 2009, is now 3-for-3 to start the season for owner Clifford Garland of Carbonear, NL.
