Century Downs leading reinsman Brandon Campbell capped off a five-win Friday night driving his own trainee Metaki to victory in the featured $14,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace.
Making up ground from fifth, Metaki ($12.60) maneuvered through traffic turning for home to beat outside closer Blue Star Mystic to the finish line in 1:54.1, prevailing by a neck as the 5-1 second choice. Saphire Blue finished three-quarters of a length behind after battling past the popular pacesetter Century Mach (:27, :55.2, 1:24.3) when they turned for home.
Jodi Loftus owns the four-year-old Vertical Horizon mare, who has won half of her 14 starts this year with Friday's feature win sending her career earnings over the $100,000 mark.
Campbell's earlier winning drives were aboard Cenalta Sweety ($3.40) for trainer Kelly Ducharme, Iris Seelster ($36.10) for Nathan Sobey, Ontheroadtotexas ($2.90) for Kelly Hoerdt and Needabankloan ($8.90) for Jacques Lambert.
