Odds-on choice Icy Blue Scooter overpowered his competition to deliver as the 1-5 favourite in the $9,000 Open Pace on Sunday, June 2 at Century Downs.

The six-year-old Blue Burner gelding sat fourth as pylon-starter Senga Nitro assumed command heading to a :29.2 opening quarter with second-tier starter Wrangler Cash in the pocket. Trainer-drive Nate Sobey tipped Icy Blue Scooter from the cones approaching a :58.1 half and drew within a head of the lead as the pace quickened towards a 1:25.3 third quarter.

Icy Blue Scooter remained at Senga Nitro's side but slid to control as they straightened for the finish. Senga Nitro settled for second while Wrangler Cash chased from third.

Co-owned by Sobey with Diane Bertrand and Robert Gilhespy, Icy Blue Scooter won his eighth race from 16 starts this season and his 20th from 106 overall, earning $145,135. He paid $2.40 to win.
